Bingley Birth Therapies

A warm welcome to Adele Potter, new site sponsor of Bingley Mums and owner of Bingley Birth Therapies.

I started taking an interest in the services available to expectant parents after the birth of my own child. In all honesty I did zero preparation for Eva’s birth, I thought that I’d be ok, that natural instincts would take over. Unfortunately I failed to convince my brain of this and didn’t achieve the all natural birth I had pictured. I know now that while the natural instincts are there, there’s a certain amount of preparation needed to be able to access them at the right time.

This is what I am aiming to help others to do now by offering a holistic range of support through yoga, massage, active birth preparation workshops and hypnobirthing.

I trained in prenatal and postnatal yoga in 2015 and have been providing classes in the area since that time. Prenatal yoga helps mums-to-be to relax and cope with the physical changes to the body during pregnancy while preparing the body and mind for birth.

Postnatal yoga helps new mums to regain the body’s strength and tone after birth while bonding with their babies who are included in the routines, these classes also include yoga poses for the babies to aid in their development.

New mum Natalie Louise Briggs said, “Highly recommend these yoga classes! I first went to Adeles classes when I was about 14 weeks pregnant. It was great to meet other pregnant women and prepare for motherhood! Adele set the tone for a wonderfully relaxing class, which was much needed after a working day. My last session was my night before my planned section. Adele had prepared me for my changing birth plan and breathing techniques to help with any birth. She was one of the most supportive people that relaxed my mind! I couldn’t wait to attend with my baby and meet all the mama’s I knew with bumps. This class is less relaxing – due to the baby in tow but it provides time to stretch aching mummy bodies and bonding time with baby, not to mention still receiving that support from Adele and other mums. I am coming towards the end of my time at yoga now and 14 months later I’ve made lifelong friends…it’s the end of an era. See you for the next one Adele, thanks for all the honest advice!”

I started training in massage in 2016 and am now accomplished in Swedish massage, Pregnancy massage and have recently trained in Warm Bamboo Massage. Offering pregnancy massage to women allows me to provide the nurturing and relaxing aspect in contrast with the physicality of yoga. I found that most mums come back to Massage in the post natal period so I offer the Swedish and Bamboo massages to support them through this time.

Hypnobirthing. I trained with The Wise Hippo in 2017 and have been offering private birthing classes to couples in bradford as an alternative to traditional hospital led hypnobirthing courses.

I enjoy supporting mums through pregnancy and birth then seeing them return to classes with their babies when they are ready. Most mums stay in touch and have reported what elements of the classes have worked well for them which is great feedback and helps inform other mums as well as shape future classes.

FREE Bingley History Activity

Bingley is a pretty interesting place, and I’m trying to put together a booklet with the key historical facts about Bingley in – but I need some help! I’ve put together two templates – one for ages 5-7 –  My Facts About Bingley Ages 5 – 7

and one for ages 7 – 11 – About Bingley Ages 7-11.

IMG_1670[1]
My son insisted on writing “the Par(c)k” so we didn’t confuse it with St Ives in Cornwall…
Ask your child to complete their own research either from your collective knowledge or through researching, and when you’re done, please photograph and send to my inbox at the Bingley Mums Facebook Page.

This not only gives your child an actual reason to write, but they stand a chance of being featured in the finished (printable) booklet! If you don’t want your child’s name to be used, please let me know when you send the message, if not, I’ll include it. The booklet will be available to download from this website, and will not be professionally printed or anything, just so you know!

I’ve only included Five Rise Locks and St Ives, but feel free to do further research on other aspects of Bingley too. Your child may find it helpful if you write out key spellings for them on some paper for them to copy as they complete the activity. Enjoy!

Holiday Enemy – Screen Time

One of the biggest battles we have in the summer holidays is trying to get our kids off screens and actually living in the moment. I know we’re to blame, as we’re the ones who bought the screens in the first place, but they’ve become an obsession, not just for our children, but for all our friends’ children too. Every day of the holiday this year, I’ve set my children a challenge to start living their lives and get off devices and I’ve created this checklist for them to complete each day. You can download yours for free here –  Before Screen Time I Must Checklist.

I have told my sons that they will get 10 minutes screen time for each of the challenges they complete, but it might be better to have an open discussion with your own children and come up with timings that work for you. You can of course, think of your own checklist, but this is something that I thought was quite generic that would work for most people.

Free Bingley Treasure Hunt Activity

Quite often on a weekend we’ll pop into Bingley, spend £17 in Home Bargains (standard), get brunch, have a stroll in the park etc, and have a nice time. But the Type A in me sometimes thinks, what’s the purpose of our visit? Now, highly strung types like myself need fear no more, as I’ve created a Bingley Treasure Hunt which is free to download and do! Start in Bingley market square, and find the answers to the questions as you stroll around. Be warned though, question 3 doesn’t have an easily obvious answer, but you can just ask someone locally in the town and hopefully they will know the answer!

IMG_1660[1]

We had a go today at some of it just before the storm started, and my sons loved it! Take a look…

IMG_1657[1]IMG_1656[1]IMG_1658[1]

Even better, our friends at The Coffee Lounge, conveniently situated just next to the market square, are offering everyone who mentions Bingley Mums a 10% discount on completion (ok you don’t need to do every single question…) of the hunt. Download yours here! Bingley Treasure Hunt

*I didn’t have time to do the whole thing, so if you spot any glaring errors please let me know.*

If any local businesses would like to offer spot prizes for completion, I’d be glad to hear about it also.

Foundry Hill Bar and Lounge

Bingley Mums has a new site sponsor – Foundry Hill Bar and Lounge! Somewhere I am ashamed to say that I have never been to until recently. But I thought it might be a nice idea to do a “mystery shopper” style date night with hubby, so I could get a true picture.

index (2).png

Foundry Hill has recently been taken over to be run as a family business by Emma and Andrew Bremner.  The family including two children Amy & Adam, live on a farm producing high welfare free range eggs – so all eggs served are direct from their other business The Rainbow Egg Company, based in Oxenhope.  Their highly experienced Head Chef, David Hartley, is passionate about preparing all dishes from fresh using good quality, locally sourced ingredients.  Even their burger buns, pasta and focaccia bread are made in their kitchen.  Nothing is bought in except fresh ingredients.

Andrew says, “I am only three weeks into running Foundry Hill and while I am very keen to preserve its already excellent reputation and small, but quality menu I am keen to build on that success.  We plan on bringing back sharing platters to the menu, something for kids and parents to enjoy together.  We are also planning on offering reduced portion options on selected main courses for smaller appetites both young and old.  Because we make all food from scratch though we are more than happy to customize meals where possible according to customer requirements such as serving starters as main children’s meals or splitting portions of mains to share.”

Foundry Hill has been the top rated restaurant in Bingley on Trip Advisor for a few years now.  This is something the new owners are very proud of and something they aspire to keep.  They are one of the few bars in Bingleyto offer an extensive cocktail, mocktail and shooters menu plus their gin selection is growing rapidly, 15 at last count including Masons Yorkshire Tea Gin.  They have 5 guest ales a week plus an extensive range of wine and spirits.  Their Prosecco from House of Townsend has won a few awards and is sold by the glass as well as the bottle (it’s stunning).

We went on a Friday night about 7pm and the bar area was very busy indeed and we had to push our way through to the “lounge” area as we had booked in for a meal. If you decide to eat at Foundry Hill, I really recommend booking as if we hadn’t, I doubt very much that we would have got a table. In the lounge area, there are a couple of sofas and tables – I would have taken photos but it seemed a bit rude to do that when people were eating, so I didn’t.

The bar has a really wide range of truly good drinks, including lots of draft beers and fizz – I tried the pink fizz which was stunning – as good as champagne. My husband had something from the gin menu – they had LOADS of gins available, and posh tonic too. So far so good.

IMG_0868 (1).JPG

I was surprised how busy the place was – in the lounge area there was a combination of people eating and people sitting in groups with their drinks, but there was a nice atmosphere. The menu is good with something for everyone, we went for burgers.

16115016_1573265652689257_1131432923775329772_n.jpg

You can choose between french fries and thick cut chips, so we had one of each…

IMG_0872 (1).JPG

IMG_0881 (1).JPG

Now I’m not really a burger sort of person, but I have to say these were delicious, you could really tell that the meat was high quality and that the beef burgers are made by hand in house.

I’m also quite fussy about wine (though not later on in the night) and I thought the wine list was spot on and also good value. We ordered a glass of wine each and I must say it slipped down very easily.

IMG_0884 (1).JPG

During the day there are good facilities for children including baby change and high chairs, as well as a children’s menu.

We had a great experience and I have to say the waiting staff were very attentive and couldn’t do enough for us (they didn’t know I was doing a review). The busy-ness of the bar didn’t affect our enjoyment as all our drinks were brought to our table. I really recommend Foundry Hill for date nights, evenings out with friends or with the whole family. A real local gem!

  • Food service Wed-Sat 12noon – 9pm (last orders 8:30pm) Sunday 12noon – 6pm (last orders 5:30pm)

Foundry Hill have paid to be a site sponsor but all thoughts are my own.

Croft and Sons Home Improvement

Bingley Mums has a new site sponsor! As regular readers know, Bingley Mums was set up to help connect local families to local businesses and generally help to improve Bingley in whatever way we can! However, running a website and paying for hosting etc does come at an occasional cost, which is covered by the generous site sponsors – I am so grateful to them for supporting Bingley Mums.

Anyway, more about our new sponsor. Croft and Sons Home Improvement are a local handyman service able to offer a full range of home and garden maintenance and improvement – from large scale projects to odd jobs, they can do them all!

Bingley Mum Rachel says – “Croft and Sons do anything that would fall under odd jobs and general home improvement – so from changing light bulbs and leaky taps to larger projects like fitting kitchens & bathrooms. They are insured and have a current DBS check – most of all, they turn up when they say they will!”

Croft and Sons have sent over some examples of work that they’ve recently undertaken.

Hands on Babies

Bingley Mums would like to welcome a brand new site sponsor – Hands on Babies – who have several classes in the local area.

Hannah C facebookbanner 851x315.jpg
As a mum of a young toddler I know how important it is to find a class that really understands and supports the bonding between the parent and baby and also provides something for Mum and or Dad too. Hands on babies provides Baby Yoga, Toddler Yoga and Baby massage classes in the Bingley and surrounding areas.

The style of Yoga that I teach is based on Hatha yoga – the union of balance of the body and mind and incorporates massage, soft stretching and gentle movements to make it appropriate for babies, ensuring a fun and rewarding experience for both the carer and the baby.

After the class I encourage parents to stay for as long as they like, to have a drink eat some delicious cake and have a chat. The Hands on Babies Baby Massage and Yoga classes provide the ideal opportunity to meet new friends and share your own personal experience in a friendly environment.

Hands on Babies is accredited by the Royal Collage of Midwives. I am a fully certified Hands on Babies Massage and Yoga instructor with a diploma in anatomy and physiology. The classes run for a 6 week block and are priced at £36.00 this includes as much coffee and cake needed!!! If you would like more information on pricing then please contact me on 07896053823 or find me on Facebook – Hannah Hands on Babies.

If you are looking for a baby massage class where your baby gets fluffy white towels each week and after you get to meet new friends with coffee and delicious cake then give me a call. If you are a parent of twins or more then you will only pay for one baby.
