This is a guest post from local dad Andy Walker with some ideas for things to do in Bingley with kids when the “boss” is away!
I’m a Dad of two living in Bingley. I’m pretty sure I’m not alone when I get somewhat worried when my wife tells me on a Sunday morning that she’s off out for the day and I need to hang out with the kids. Apparently the boss tells me I’m not allowed to spend another day getting the kids to ‘help’ rake the leaves and I actually need to occasionally do something else with them.
So I looked into Geocaching. I found a great free app which gives some locations around Bingley of caches that me and the kids can look for. So we decided, one Sunday, to go see what we could find up at St Ives.
St Ives is a great place to spend the day with the kids. We took a picnic (which the wife made, apparently a packet of crisps and an apple is not a meal) and spent the entire day collecting sticks, playing in the playground and looking for caches. There are at least 3 free caches in St Ives. The kids loved finding the hiding places and writing their names on the log books.
Here are some pictures of them having fun up at St Ives. It’s a great place and you don’t need any money unless you want to buy an ice cream. There is a cafe but we usually take our own food. I definitely recommend it for having fun with the kids.
Local Mum Becki set up Mia Bambina after the birth of her first child Mia back in 2006 (?). Like a lot of little ones, Mia developed eczema and Becki found that some creams and washing products were making the problem worse. Becki also found that the clothes Mia was wearing were possibly adding to the problem as it turns out that a lot of clothes contain toxins that are present even in baby wear! This shocked Becki enough to immediately change how she shopped for Mia, and that organic cotton was the way forward for them, however back then there were limited options. After a lot of shopping around and realising there was hardly anything out there, Becki decided to begin her own organic and fairtrade clothes and toys website, where people can buy safe and ethically sourced products and learn about the advantages of going organic – so Mia Bambina was born.
Becki says, “Mia Bambina is now an established business that I continue to learn from as I do my research into organic and fair trade. We have recently started our own range of organic cotton bandana bibs which I designed myself – these are great for mopping up baby’s dribble, safe in the knowledge that no harmful chemicals have been used in manufacture. We have a fantastic range of organic cotton babygrows and playsuits along with some gorgeous soft cuddly toys and rattles made from 100% organic cotton. Our funky wooden toys include a fabulous selection from Lanka Kade, their brightly coloured wooden baby toys and jigsaws aregreat for your baby’s developing brain.”
Bingley Mums is pleased to say that Mia Bambina has been added to our growing list of sponsors and we are pleased to be working alongside someone as passionate about her business as Becki.
Please visit www.miabambina.co.uk to see what Becki has to offer and help support local businesses. Becki loves providing excellent customer service so if you have any questions please contact her on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Everyone loves a day out at Bolton Abbey – it’s such a crowd pleaser. Choose to either park at Strid Wood and have a shortish walk down to the strid, or park in the riverside car park, have a latte and a scone, and walk along a more pushchair friendly path to the strid.
We’ve been friends for nearly 7 years ago, and it’s been an emotional friendship. True, 10 years ago I had never heard of you. I was living in Madrid and didn’t care about proximity of supermarkets, Marks and Spencers food halls and access to a Pizza Express. But times have changed. Now I rarely leave your borders, and my life is confined to about five square miles. How different my life is now.
Miscarriage, the unspoken pain that affects so many women. They say that 1 in 6 pregnancies ends in a miscarriage and that many people don’t even know they are pregnant, but sadly this wasn’t the case for me.

These sessions include listening to a story as a group, then making a craft activity or other learning related activity linked to the story that has been read. It’s a great opportunity to meet other local parents, learn about books and generally introduce your little one to the joys of being a member of a library and choosing books.
If you want to join Bingley Library for free there is an online form here, it’s probably one of the greatest gifts you can give to your child. Remember that as tax payers we all pay for this service, so make the most of it 🙂
